Findin' It Harder

"I'm findin' it harder to be a gentleman every day..." -The White Stripes

When I see a girl cry (or anyone for that matter), my first instinct is to see if they're okay and see if they need anything.  For someone truly in peril or misfortune, I will go purt' near completely out of my way to help them.  It's how I was brought up and it's just how I'm wired.  What really irks me is when people see that and pull my heartstrings for their own pitiless ends.  I feel used.  It feels so wrong.   What really angers me is that I now I have to think twice and decide whether I ought to help someone or not.  Having touched the stove, something tells me that I shouldn't care so much.  This shouldn't be.  Trying to help someone in pain should not cause unnecessary pain to me in the process.  This isn't the first time my heart's been played with, and I know for a fact that it won't be the last.

Thing is, though, I'd rather have my heart played with than to not care. Caring is my greatest virtue and my worst folly and I know it full well and am not ashamed of it.   This is my greatest worry, though; that I get so burned out that I withhold compassion when someone truly needs it the most.

About deciding to offer help
Or even should I care,
No poem even comes to mind
The words just aren't there...

  1. :( i know what you mean. it's hard to find the balance when people weren't brought up the same way. they may not understand why you are so caring. they may be just as suspicious, which is sad. never stop loving. just do it in your safe way :) you are such a kind person.

  2. God is pleased that you do such acts of kindness and you are blessed. He is pleased and that is the only appreciation one should need. I'm proud of you that you are following His light and His command, by caring and loving people. May you continue to do so, my Brother. :)

I understand where you are coming from. I have been through such trobules to. I always look to the Word whenever I have questions. One paraphrase of what I've learned in the New Testament is:

No servant is greater than the master. If they insulted and pulled His heartstrings, then they will do the same to us. All because we stand for what is right and for love. All because we stand for what is truth and Light. All because we stand for Our Savior, Jesus Christ. So, do not be suprised if no one appreciates your kindness. But continue to love them to glorify God. Love them to show His love and to show your love towards Jesus. Sometimes people need just some loving and praying to change a heart. Even the coldest heart can be renewed through Him. Kill them with kindness, Clayton. :)

"It is written: "I will punish those who do wrong; I will repay them," says the Lord. But you should do this:
    "If your enemy is hungry, feed him;
if he is thirsty, give him a drink.
Doing this will be like pouring
burning coals on his head." [Proverbs 25: 21-22]
Do not let evil defeat you, but defeat evil by doing good." ~Romans 12: 19-21~

I love to continue this conversation with you, Clayton. Message me on Facebook for any questions or insights. I would love to hear your insights also as long as you are willing to hear a few of my own. Peace be to you! :)

God bless, my Brother in Christ. Loves! ^-^

P.S. Always remember that Jesus is always with you. He never gives up on you like some humans do. He will always love you, wherever you may go and whatever choices you make. His love will always be there. Pray to Him for strength, comfort, and perseverance. And I pray for you too, my Brother. :)
