What if we actually got what we wanted?
What if, at the end of our lives, God gave us the desires of our heart of hearts?
And what if He sometimes gives us what we want now, in time?
"When you get what you want, but not what you need" -Coldplay (fix you).
What if in heaven and hell, we experience the full presence of God?
What if the presence of God could be heaven, or it could be hell depending on where you stand? What if eternity is defined by the presence of God?
"And I was thinking to myself this could be heaven or this could be hell" -The Eagles (Hotel California)
What if we are already in His presence?
What if we have the rest of our lives to decide how we relate to God?
What if we can't decide?
What if eternity is now?
"There are only two kinds of people in the end: those who say to God, 'Thy will be done,' and those to whom God says, in the end, 'Thy will be done.'" -C.S. Lewis (The Great Divorce)

i really like this. makes one think. on so many different levels.
ReplyDeleteAnother Lewis quote comes to mind, the one about all people here on earth being "immortal horrors or everlasting splendours". Remember the GB discussion about the Greeks' view of time vs. the Romans' view of time? Achilles' shield vs. Vergil's ever-recurring theme of Destiny. I think that ties in with this idea of Eternity being now. Oh! Maybe we just have shades of Eternity. All of history pointed to the first coming of Christ, and now everything follows points to the second coming of Christ. The real Eternity, and we see glimpses of it, but only through a mirror dimly. :-)
